Q. Does the brand of vodka matter in mixed drinks?
A. Because vodka, in general, does not have any distinctive color, aroma, or flavor, discerning the differences between straight vodkas is difficult…and almost impossible in a mixed drink.
Q. What is the best way to enjoy flavored vodkas?
A. Flavored vodkas are changing the way people drink. Instead of being mixed with fruit juice or in complex cocktails, many flavored vodkas are best served either over ice or chilled straight up. If that's too potent, try adding Sprite. It has the most neutral flavor of any sweetened mixer, making the cocktail not too overpowering.
Q. Can vodka be served with food?
A. Vodka can certainly stand-alone but it does pair well with certain foods. Caviar is the primary food to be served with vodka, but other kinds of seafood and various salty morsels are also good choices.
Q. What is the best way to chill glassware as called for by cocktail recipes?
A. Fill the glass with ice and swish it around before you prepare the drink. Then empty out the ice and pour in the drink to serve. Or, you can keep the glasses in the refrigerator until serving
Q. I’ve heard that there is a black vodka. Is that true?
A. Yes, Blavod from the UK is available at our Outlet Stores. The black color comes from the addition of an herb from southern Asia and central and east Africa. The herb has no effect on the taste.
