Q. Where is the best vodka produced?
A. Today, vodka is produced throughout the world, with most being produced in Europe and the US. While there are award-winning vodkas from every corner, Russia is still considered the grandfather of great vodka.
Q. What makes vodka such a popular spirit?
A. Vodka can be flavored or unflavored, enjoyed neat or as a mixed drink. It’s this versatility that makes it so popular.
Q. Why doesn’t vodka have any smell, color or flavor?
A. The production of vodka involves extensive use of filtration. Distilled vodka is filtered through charcoal and other media specifically because, under U.S. and European law, vodka must not have any distinctive aroma, character, color or flavor.
Q. Does vodka’s main ingredient affect its quality?
A. No. Vodka’s main ingredient (potato, wheat, or sugar cane) does not affect the final product. The act of fermentation is designed to separate the alcohol from the water. Since alcohol has a lower boiling temperature than water the alcohol vaporizes, leaving the water behind. The vapor is collected in tubes and cooled, the resulting condensation is collected, boiled again to remove even more water, and so on, until what is drawn from the still is almost pure alcohol, having no trace of its original source.
Q. Is vodka aged?
A. No, there is no aging process for vodka.
